Equipment financing is a loan, lease or equipment finance agreement used to buy or use business equipment, which usually secures the financing. Summitreach Capital, a small-business funding broker in Jacksonville, North Carolina, helps Onslow County contractors, restaurants and practices compare the three and connects them with lending partners, which decide and set rates and terms.

Loans, leases and equipment finance agreements
There are three common ways to pay for business equipment over time, and the difference is mostly about who owns it and when.
| Equipment loan | Lease | Equipment finance agreement (EFA) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who owns it | You, from the start; the partner holds a lien | The leasing company, during the lease | You, subject to the agreement |
| Payments | Principal and interest over a set term | Rent for use of the asset | Fixed installments, often structured like a loan |
| At the end | The lien is released | Return, renew or buy, depending on the lease | You keep the equipment |
| Often suits | Long-lived equipment you will keep | Equipment you may upgrade or replace | Owners who want ownership with simple paperwork |
Leases come in different forms. Some end with a nominal buyout and work much like a purchase; others end with a fair-market-value option to buy, return or renew. The end-of-term option changes the total cost, so read it before comparing monthly payments.
New, used and what the invoice includes
Used equipment can be financed, though partners may set shorter terms for older machines and may want an inspection, the hours or mileage, or a dealer's description. Private-party sales usually need more documentation than dealer sales. Ask whether delivery, installation, training and software on the invoice can be included in the financed amount, or whether you pay them separately.
Construction equipment and contractor vehicles
Construction is a large part of Onslow County's business base: 328 employer establishments in 2023, including 181 specialty trade contractors and 121 building contractors (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023). For contractors the usual requests are excavators, skid steers, compact loaders, trailers, lifts, compressors and the work trucks and vans that carry crews and tools to job sites.
Machines with a strong resale market tend to be easier to finance than custom or specialized equipment. Partners will often ask for the quote, the serial number on used items, and proof of insurance before funding. The contractor page goes further into equipment and cash flow for the trades.
Kitchen and clinical equipment
Restaurants finance ranges, ovens, hoods, walk-in coolers and point-of-sale systems. Onslow County had 398 food service and drinking place employer establishments in 2023 (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns 2023); the restaurant page covers their equipment questions.
Medical and dental practices finance imaging, chairs, sterilization units and practice software. The county had 211 ambulatory health care employer establishments in 2023, including 61 physicians' offices and 35 dentists' offices (same source). Clinical equipment is often specialized, so partners may focus closely on the practice's revenue and the equipment's useful life. The medical and dental page has more.
Equipment loan or line of credit
Use equipment financing for a specific, long-lived asset: the equipment secures the loan, and the term can match the asset's working life. Use a line of credit for smaller tools, repairs and parts that come up again and again. Putting a large machine on a line ties up the limit you need for everyday costs. For a bigger project that combines a build-out with equipment, a business term loan may cover it in one agreement.
Owning equipment and county paperwork
Business equipment can bring its own local paperwork. The Onslow County license and listing guide shows which office handles what, so you can check what applies to your equipment before a partner asks.
What partners look at, and where Summitreach Capital fits
Expect requests for the equipment quote or invoice, recent bank statements, information about time in business and credit, and sometimes financial statements for larger purchases. A clear explanation of how the equipment earns money, more jobs, faster service or new procedures, helps a partner understand the request.
We help you compare loans, leases and EFAs for the equipment you have in mind and take the request to partners that finance it. What happens after you call explains the stages, the sector pages cover equipment by industry, and local business figures are on the Jacksonville, NC page.
