How this directory is organized
Owners rarely need every organization at once. This guide is arranged by what you are trying to do, with each organization described from its own pages as checked on 2026-10-15. Programs, staff and addresses change, so confirm details with the organization before you visit.
Summitreach Capital is not affiliated with, and does not speak for, any organization listed here.
I want free, one-to-one business advice
The NC SBTDC Wilmington office lists six counties in its service area: Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow and Pender. Its office is at 803 S. College Rd, Suite A, in Wilmington. When we checked its page on 2026-10-15 it showed no separate Jacksonville, NC or Onslow County office, so ask about meeting options when you get in touch. The SBTDC locations list shows every office in the state.
An SBTDC adviser is independent of any lender or broker. That makes the office a good first call if you are still deciding whether to borrow at all, or if you want someone to check your projections before a lender sees them.
I want to grow, relocate or find a site in the county
Onslow County Economic Development (Onslow Coastal Alliance) is the county's economic development organization. It was formerly known as JOED, and the city's economic development page links to it. Organizations like this typically work with businesses on expansion, relocation and site questions; ask it directly what services it offers to small firms.
I want local business connections
The Jacksonville Onslow Chamber of Commerce is a membership organization, also linked from the city's economic development page. Chambers are useful for introductions to local suppliers, customers and professional advisers such as accountants and attorneys. Membership is a business decision of its own; there is no requirement to join before seeking funding.
I want to ask about an SBA-backed loan
The SBA North Carolina District Office says it services the entire state of North Carolina, with offices in Charlotte and Wilmington. It is the place to learn which SBA programs exist and how to find lenders that take part in them. Summitreach Capital does not arrange SBA loans.
I need to register the business or set up tax accounts
- Entities: the NC Secretary of State's Business Registration Division.
- State tax accounts: the NC Department of Revenue's business registration page.
- City permits: the City of Jacksonville, NC's Business / Privilege Licenses page.
The Onslow County license and listing checklist explains how the three fit together.
I am looking for a grant
Grants are outside what Summitreach Capital arranges. If you are looking for one, ask the SBTDC or the county's economic development organization which programs are open, and be cautious of anyone who charges a fee to find you a grant.
What to bring to any of these offices
- A one-page description of the business: what it sells, to whom, and for how long.
- Your last business tax return and a few recent bank statements.
- A short note on what you want to achieve: a new location, a hire, a piece of equipment.
- Any funding offers you have already received, so an adviser can help you read them.
If you already have a funding offer
An adviser can help you read an offer you have already received, and that is often the most valuable hour you can spend. Bring the full agreement, not a summary. Ask the adviser to help you find the total amount you will pay back, the payment frequency, any fees taken out at funding, whether there is a personal guarantee or a lien, and what happens if you pay early or fall behind. If the offer is a merchant cash advance, remember that it is not a loan and is priced with a factor rate, so convert it into dollars before comparing it with anything else.
You can also ask us to walk through an offer with you. How a request moves explains how we compare offers.
How these routes compare with a broker
| Route | What it does | Cost to you |
|---|---|---|
| NC SBTDC | Independent business advising | Ask the office |
| Economic development organization | Expansion, relocation and site help | Ask the organization |
| Chamber of commerce | Membership network and introductions | Membership dues, if you join |
| SBA district office | Information on SBA programs and participating lenders | Ask the office |
| Summitreach Capital | Matches a funding need to lending partners; partners decide | Ask us before you proceed; partners set the cost of any funding |
These routes work together. Many owners get advice first, then compare private options. The six funding types are compared on one page, term loans cover larger projects, and local figures are on the Jacksonville, NC page. More guides are on the guides page.
